ONSLOW BOROUGH COUNCIL.
The' monthly meeting of the Onslow Borough Council was held at the Council Chamljers last night. Present: The Mayor (Mr. V. Holdsworth), Councillors Lynneberg, (iardner, Bowden, Bates, Stafford, JJingwall, Aplin, and Darvall. The finance Coiamittce recommended that District Fund accounts amounting to .£522 12s. lid. be passed for payment, and that a sum of'J-50 be voted to tho late Mayor for tho year 1910-11.—Adopted. The Sanitation Committee recommended that Mr. James Marshall's contract for the removal of rubbish at Kniwarra be .renewed for one year on the same conditions as last year.—Adopted. The Public Works Committee Tecommended that the. extension of Karamu Street, Crofton West,' be referred to the Engineer for report; that the present Council Chamber bo rented for a year at, say, per annum; that the necessary stops be taken for submitting the Khandallah Hall proposal, and the borrowing of .£13.50 to a poll of tho ratepayers; that Mr. A. AVells Newton bo re-engaged as.borough consulting engineer for another. year; that tlie work proposed by tho road foreman be authorised. —Adopted. . . . Councillor Darvall moved: "That the Wellington City Council bo asked whether it will consider the question of co-operat-ing with the Onslow Borough in the erection of a foot-bridge, and the con'struction ,pf .-.the , necessary approaches, "across "the gorge connecting Ivgaio nnd Wadestown;. and also, that a committee (consisting .of . the councillors.'for Ngaio Ward., and the ,-Jlayor)-'ba appointed to deal with, this matter." The"motion was seconded- by- Councillor - Stafford, and, after some "discussion, was carried. Tho bridge will be about 300 ft. long, and will cost about ,£I2OO. Councillor Dingwall moved: "That thp Government be , asked to put. down a kerbing dividing the footpath froni the bicycle track, along the rc.id between Kaiwarra and Thorndon Esplanade." After being discussed, the motion was lost! Councillor Aplin moved: "That the borough employees cease work at 12 o'clock on Saturdays instead of at one o'clock, ns at present."—Carried. Councillor Stafford moved: "That the necessary stens be taken to raise a special loan of .£ISOO for the purpose of purchasing land, erecting a public li.ill. nnd furnishing the samp at Khnndnllah." This was carried. The loan will be for a term of 361 years or less, and a rate of 7-32 d. in the.nound is to he Wied on the unimproved val"e "f rateable, property in Khanrbllah Ward as security. , Councillor Dingwall gnve notice if motion: 'That the council frame V-lnws regnlatine the speed of motor-cars in the borniieh.". While the ranger's report was being discussed, complaint wa« made that n. number of animals were bein? allowed to wander on tho bnroueh mads. It was decided in future in prosecute the owners of such animals after the first offence.
