The clearing sale which was to have been held to-day at the homestead of Mr. Laurie Rhodes , , "Warntah," Onga Onga, has been postponed until Monday, May 22, on account of the wet weather. In an advertisement in this issue. Messrs. Lundon, Stewart, and Co., of Hastings, who arc holding the sale, give particulars of the stock, horses, and implements, which are- to be disposed of. A letter was recently received by the Mayor (Mr. T. M. Wilford) from the New Zealand Industrial Exhibition asking him to invite the citizens of Wellington to observe a holiday on tho opening day of tho Exhibition (Empire Dny). Replying to Councillor Fletcher at the City Council last evening, tho Mayor said a whole holiday was asked for. Councillor Fletcher said lie thought a half-holiday would be sufficient. The Mayor replied that tho request had come from the Exhibition. Committee, and ho had replied consenting. It was an important occasion. Messrs. Williams and Kettle, Ltd., will hold a clearing stock sale at the farm of Mr. W. R. M'Lrod, Onga Ongn, on Thursday next, May 25. Messrs. Dwan Bros., Willis Street., advertise particulars of a country hotel for sale. Where there is much praise—there must be solid reason.
