Tt was announced at the meeting of the London County Council that the total net debt at the end. of last year had increased to ,£51,098,95:;. .Sir George Cioldio. explained that tho debt for rato services had been reduced during the year Ijv ,£50,000. Tho growth of throe anil a half millions in the debt for revenue-produc-ing undertakings would not bo complained of in any quarter, and tho only complaint. that they had heard was that the debt had not grown more rapidly and that tho council had not developed tramways at a faster rate. After a lengthy discussion, it was decided to. give each council employee, with tho exception of those of the fire brigade, tho equivalent of one day's rest in seven, unless otherwise ordered by the council.
