(From Our Special Correspondents.) . 9 . HASTINGS. The election of members for the Hawko's Bay River Board took place on Wednesday, and resulted us follow:—Clive Ward: H. lau Simsoii, 114; H. Neaglo, 107. Meanee Ward: G. A. Macdunulil, 203; P. Parsons, 91. Papakura Ward: G. P. Donnelly, 77; ■J. E. 'Lane, 58. Messrs. Siinson, Macdonald, and Donnelly are therefore elected. In addition to these, tho Hon. J. I). Urmond was elected unopposed for the Omaraenui Ward, and Mr. George Jlerritt for the Karaimi Ward. The results for the Pukahu and TV.radale Wards are not yet to hand. Present indications arc that the new board will not be long in discovering a fi?ld for its activities, Rain is falling very heavily, and, with a prospect of continuance, the rivers are likely to scon rise. Messrs. J. Garrctt, T. 'Styles, and IS. iki'Cormick have received official recognition from the Government as the .Hastings Borough Council's representatives on the local Fire Board. Tho Hastings Swimming Club held a successful "social" in the Drill Hall on AYodnesd.iy night, when, despite rough weather, about SO couples were present. Mr. H. Lan Simson (president of the club) presented tho trophies won during the past season. The Hastings District Plunket Nnrse Society held a general meeting on Wednesday, and decided to transfer .£2OO from the Floral Fete fund to 'the society's fund. It was stated that the society had not been called on so much of late as had formerly been the case, and it was suggested that a wrong impression had got about concerning its work. Ultimately further consideration was deferred till tho annual meeting.

OTAKI. The ,£25 shield, donated by residents of the Horowhenua County tor competition among senior football clubs of the district, is now on view at Manakau. The Otaki Bowling Club's green is at present undergoing top-dressing, which, when finished, will much improve the levels. A firo broke out at a cottage occupied by Mrs. A. Strawbridgo, in the vicinity of the Otaki liailway Station last night, and, before help could be summoned, had secured a strong hold. In the meantime a number of onlookers rushed across from the station, and saved some furniture, bedding, etc. Mrs. Strawbridge will be a fairly heavy loser. FEILDING. Miss E. Mahoney, formerly assistant at Taomii, has been appointed to. Colyton School. ' ' I Mr. Harre, of Horopito, is to be transferred to Waiata School. A contrast: Apiti has 101 technical school students; Taibape SS. Mr. C. A. Osbiston, who has teen on tho Feilding staff of the Union Bank of Australia for 3i years, left for Sydney, via Wellington, yesterday afternoon on transfer. Mr. W. L. Carkcek, of Christchurch, is temporarily filling the vacancy. The celebration of tho Coronation is to be made at the various schools in. the Vr'anganni district on Thursday, Juno 22, and a holiday is to be given next day. The Apiti Dairy Factory closed down this week. Messrs. Donovan and Redmond (Irish delegates), who gave on address in Feilding last night on Home Rule, were met at the station yesterday afternoon and welcomed by leading people. They were also entertained at afternoon tea nnd dinner at M'Manaway's Feilding Hotel. The Beautifying Society has received JW3 for. its.fnnds~.as the result of the re-, cent . . Coronation -F«te. .which was_, organised by a loc.'il committee of enthusiasts who desire the money to be spent on tree planting in the main streets. FEATHERSTON. At a meeting of the Town ..Board, held on Wednesday, tho rates for tho current year were levied as follow:—General, 3Jd. in the £; library, 1-Gd. in the •£; water loan interest, 1 1-Gd. in the £. A motion by Mr. Benton: "That all the board's reserves be let without any restrictions as to tho clearance of noxious weeds, and that the board undertake such work itself," was discussed and withdrawn. It was resolved that the present tenants be notified that they must clear their sections of noxious weeds within fourteen It is considered practically certain that there' will ">e four candidates for Parliamentary honours for this electorate, but only two of them, Messrs. Buchanan and Hornsby, have commenced tho campaign. The other two are Messrs.-Mark Maxton and C. "VV. Tanner.- There is a rumour that a Labour candidate will also appear, but this is not looked upon as probable.
