WEDNESDAY ASSOCIATION. 1 RESULT OP MATCHES. Karori 3'Hui Mai 2 Peione A 9 Artillery 1 P. and Telegraph 5 Horeawa 5 Pa'keha 4 Peione B 1
The third series of games in the first round of the "Wednesday competitions was played yesterday afternoon. Ihe weather was very dull, and rara set in before the games were finished. The plav in the Karori-Ilui Mai match was excellent, the combination of both teams being particularly in evidence. Petane A had rather an easy win over- Artillery. The latter team are starting with a number of new men who have not yet apparently got used to the sticks. The match Post and Teieqraph v. Horeawa was a great " S a" from start to finifh, and Jones (Post and Telegraph), and Kncli (Hereawa) divided the principal honours, Jones scoring four out ot the five goals, while liucli scored three out of five. Pakelia had much the better of their game with Petone B, the latter being very weak in tho back division.
KAROHI-lIUI 3IAI. This match was played at Karon, and after a hard-fought game resulted in a win for Karori by 3 goals to 2. In the first spell llui Mai (playing a man short) opened with a passing rush, carrying the game into Karori quarters, Coopor saving what seemed a sure goal. llui Mai kept up tho attack, and Lippett, taking a quick pass from ISc.v, fcaretl the first, goal 'foil Hlli Mai. Alter pli-.y restarted Karori kept llui Mai busy defending and, to save themselves, tlio latter were oblig-. Ed to concede r. corner, from which k. Spiers shot a goal Play was now very fast both sides passing lvdl, but the bct : tcr combination of llui Mai kept Karon largely ou the defensive, and hoj;' just missed the net by a couple of feet, shortly afterwards, however.. Hoy starte<l a nassitif rush which ended in Goldwater finding the net. Tho spell finished m favour of llui Mai by S goals to 1. The major part of tho second spell was played 'in heavy rain. Karori exhibiting more dash ami combination, soon ha;l Hul Mai in trouble-, and Uyor, followin" up fa< notched a goal, tor some time, thereafter, play was up and down the ground, Karori forcing Hni Mai into (heir circle and P. Spiers then scored tho winning goal for Karori. Hni Mar put in sonifi hiU'd work in an endeavour to even up the score, but when the whistle sounded, play was in the middle of tho "round. , . For Karori K. and V. Spiers, Lowe, Tlyer. and Cole were the bfot, while, for ifui.Mai, Lippett, Hoy, Bey, Selie. and Sherwood showed to advantage. -Mr. J. C. Cusack was referee.
' I'ETOiNE A-ARTITjLER^-; The contest between Petone A and AγtillTy took place at Petone. In tho iir.it spell plav was very ragged, but Petone kept Artillery on the defensive for the greater portion of the- spell, and jjoa s wore scored by Wylie (1) J. M'lvwan (1), and Judd (2). In tho second spell tne Potone forwards played with more combination, and save the Artillery backs plenty of work. &an after the spell began May, for Artillery, managed to find Iho net, but, from this onward, Petoi.o kept the play round the Artillery circle, and goals followrf in rniiclc succession, the sccn-i's being:—n. M'Ewan (2), Boswick (1), J. M'Ewan (li, Mid Wylio (1). Petono A tints won by 1) goals to 1. For Petone. VI. and .T. M'Ewan, .Tndd, Wylie, Bcswick, Bates, and Parrant were the best, while for Artillery, Gillefnie, May, and Portnr were in evidence. Mr. Maiming was referee.
■ lIEREAWA-P. AND T. The match Hercawa v. Vest ami Te-ls. graph was played id Dupp:i Street Park, and, after a very even gamp, resulted in a draw, each side scoring 5 goals. In the first spell Jones (1 , , ami T.) ami Kuch (flereawa) each scored two goals. In the second spell scores were made in the following order.—Caterer Olercawa) one, Jones (P. and T.) one, Kuch (Horeawa) one, Craig (P. and T.) one, Jones (P. and T.) one, Kucli (Hereawa) one. For Post and Telegraph, Jones, Cameron, O'Brien, and Craig were generally there or thereabouts, while, for Ilerwnvo, Kuch. M'Dowcll, Clemoiitsoii, Caterer, nnil Gamble caught the eye most. Mr. Smith was referee.
PAKEHA-PETONK B. This match Piikehn \. Petons B wa> played on the Basin ]{eserve, ami resulted in a win for Pakcha by four goals to one. In the first spell, Pnkclia had all the best of tho game, Gvacie and Koaeh each scoring a goal. In the second spell, Potone opened well. Kidiller headed a forward rush, carrying tho ball into tho circle, and notched the first and only goal for his .Mde. From this out Pakeha held tho upper hand, botli Paget and Perry scoring. For Pakeha, Gracie, ltaach, Paget, and Perry were the best. ■yt'llm-aith, Hiddlcr, and Ellis played .best for Petoue. 3lr. Ilollis was referee.
