' SOME SHOW • AFFAIRS. (Ey Telegraph—Special Correspondent.) Palmorston North, May IG. The monthly' meeting, of tho general committee of tho Mannwatu A. and P. Association was held to-day. Air. A. Conway presided,' and there was a largo attendance of- members of committee.' The Director of tho Technical School (Jir. F. -D. Onie) wrote.requesting tho use' of tho Exhibition Hall during tho months of October, for a sheep-sheafing, wool-classing, and packing class-;' Request granted. In applying'for. a grant towards the Wheeler Memorial: Fund. Mr., E. .Short stated' that if was estimated thai: the proposed sheep iiavilion would cost about .£llOO, and ho did not think■ that there would be any great difficulty in;raising this amount. On tho recommendation ot tho Finance Committee, a sum oi £100 was voted to the fund, conditionally on the plans and si to being approved'by the general committee. On tho motion oi Mr. Short, tho president, and Messrs. M'Hardy, Lancaster, Gillies, and Booth (witn power to add to their number), were 'appointed to act with tho sub-com-mittee already appointed in connection with tho iricmonai. -~ vJIr. Lancaster reported that Alessrs. -Colliu'son nnd Cunningham' had agreed to allow their cup to bo awarded tor ,-hunters' competition at the Dairy Show, instead of at the Spring Show, as had beeii at-feat arranged. ■ . Tho reports of the Schedule Committers were held over till next meeting.. : . ' The following motion, of which notice ; had been given by Mr. R. S. Aoraham, T»as carried: "That a committee bo set up to consider and report on tho advisability of altering tho rules in the way ot ' allocating a certain number of. seats on tho committee to tho Feildmg, Levin, Woodville, Darinsvirke, and, Pahiatua AsSboiations, who -shall elect their representatives annually sucu committee to consist of -the preside/it, Messrs. Cohen, . Davies, Balsillle, M'Kolvie, Gibbons, ■ and the'mover, with power to add to their number.' A : motion-.to open the exhibition buildings in the evenings, during, tho period' of the :Snring JMiow iras referred to tho Ground Committee for a report. The president and Mt.' S. R.;Lancastor _were appointed delegates t'o the annual "" conference of A.'-and P. Associations, and the following remits were suggested :— ' '
That tho time had arrived when tho Government should be asked to subsidise the' two principal shows of i the Dominion— Canterbury and Mana- .. watu.' ■ That the Railway Department be asked to make rebates of-freight Hheep sent l-o shows, and killed for freezing, and also on stock sold at shows. It was made a recommendation to tho Finance, Committee that they endeavour to secure a rebate on tho rates on the show ground. It was also resolved to ask his Excellency the Governor to become patron of tho association. _ , • In connection with a prize, donated, at the last Spring Show for the best pony cart turn-out,'- but which, tho donor refused to hand over, it was decided that the association should pay tho nmount of £5 Ss. to tho winner (Mr. Moynihan, of Shannon).
It was. decided to. do away with the poultry section e.t tho Spring Show. The secretary (Mr. J. C. Lane) tendered his resignation, which was accepted-, same to' tako effect in three months.
