-4 NEW EMPEROR PROCLAIMED. By Tekuraph—Press Association-CoDvrleht Addis Abeba, May 15. Menelik's grandson . and heir, Princo Lidj Jcassu, has been proclaimed Eniporor of Abyssinia. The state of tho country is quiet.
The Emperor Menelik II of Abyssinia has. been in bad health . for some time. In June, 1908, he nominated Lidj Joassu, born in 1896, as his successor. In May, 1909, Lidj Jeassn was married to Princess Ilomaino (horn in 1901), granddaughter of the Emperor Johannes 11. Two days afterwards he was publicly declared heir to tho Imperial Throne* and in March of last year, owing to (ho continued illness of the Emperor, and in order to prevent tho Empress Taitou (aunt of tho young princo s wife) from interfering in affairs of State, Has Tessama, tho official guardian of the heirapparent, was appointed Itogcnt.
