A NEW INSTRUCTOR. (By Telegraph.—Press Association.! Dunedin, May 15. Owing to the increasing development of tie bee-keeping industry, the Government has decided to appoint an apiary instructor for Otngo and Southland, .and Mr. E. A. Earp has been selected for tho position. Hitherto tho whole of tho South Island has been served by an instructor resident in Christchurch. To counteract the frosts on futuro occasions, tho Hawkc's Bay 'Fruitgrowers' Association has sent an order to America for a sample of six orchard-heaters of two patterns, in .order to .test this method of dealing with the frost, and the association hopes to bo able to do* something to prevent such a disastrous loss as most of the fruitgrowers sustained last October. It is expected that this consignment will shortly arrive—Exchange. Woolly aphis was discussed at a meeting of the Horowhemia Fruitgrowers' Association at Levin. The "Chronicle-" reports that the secretary (Mr. M. Fosella) read a paper regarding Mr. T[. Newport's method of raising trees from high buddings as a preventive of attacks by woolly aphis; also in regard to tho specific for permanent cure recently evolved by • Mr. Taylor, of the Government Experiment Farm, Wereroa. It was mentioned that after two years' treatment of several apple trees at the farm, not a trace of the pest was to bo seen on any the trees.
