(From Our Special Correspondent.! q .. PETONE COURT SITTINGS. Dr. M'Arthur, S.M., presided at the monthly bitting of the Magistrate's Court at Pctono vestcrday morning. Edward M'lntosh pleaded guilty, to a charge of using insulting language in Jackson Street. Ho was fined 205., with court costs 75., in default seven clays' imprisonment. On a charge of procuring liquor at Petono during the currency of a proliibition order, issued at Carterton, Patrick M'Gill was fined 405., in default U days' imprisonment. On a ehargo of being found on licensed premises lie was similarly dealt with. James Henry Farquharson was prosecuted by the Inspector of Factories (Mr. Lo. Cren) for failing to close his shop on the statutory half-holiday. He was hnocl IDs. with costs os. The Truant Inspector (Mr. Dinnecn) prosecuted the following parents for failing to see that their children attended school regularly :—P. J. Mnllin.3, lined 55., costs 75.; G. Packwood, lined 45., costs 75.; U. J. Wynyard, fined Is., costs 75.; K. Coutt.", fined 25., costs 75.; \V. Devoirie, information withdrawn; L. I'arrant, fined L's., costs 75.; George Tasker, ease dismissed.
George Clark, a railway ganger, for K'liuin Mr. Cracroi't Wilson appeared, laid an information against William Harris, ulso a railway ganger, for using insulting language to him in a public place, namely, on the Hutt I'oad, near the Manawatu Bridge. Mr. M'Grath, who appeared for Harris, entered a technical plea of guilty. Defendant was convicted and ordered to pay court costs, amounting to XI 135., and solicitor's fee, .£1 Is.
George Alfred Parker was charged with assaulting his stepmother, Florence Emily Parker. Mr. It. F. Smith appeared for the complainant. His .Worship dismissed the information, and advised the defendant to leave his father's home, as he apparently could not agree with his stepmother.
In the case of S. W. Kowbold v. W. H. Money, a claim for £i ss. for rent, judgment was given for plaintiff, with costs £2 2s.
Alice Maud M'Cullough, boardinghousekceper, sued W. Norton lor Xi 2s. Judgment was entered for plaintiff for £2, court costs lis., witnesses' expenses 165., and solicitor's fee, XI Is. , In the case Stephen Curtis v. JSafah Ellen Snow, a claim to recover £7 ils. for rent, plaintiff was nonsuited without costs. Judgment was given by default iu the following civil cases:—R. W. Short v. J. W. M'Carthy, .£ll 17s. 6d., costs 175.; Bailey, Austin, and Arcus v. Thomas Green, .CIS 9s. lid., costs 175.; S. G. Radford v. Edward M'lntosli, 20=., costs ss. TRAM SYNDICATE'S OFFER. It is understood that au important offer bearing on the provision of a tram service for liutt and Petono has been made to tho Hutt Valley Tramway Board by a syndicate, which is reported to seek a twenty-five years' concession. Tho matter will bo dealt with by the board this evening.
