HARRIERS.

The first club race of tho season, under the auspices of the Brooklyn Harriers, was held at Miramar on Saturday afternoon over a measured course of two miles. The rodte selected was from the tram terminus, up tho hill, and down behind "Wonderland," and then towards the gasometer across tho paddock by the Polo grounds, and back to tho starting point. Thirty members turned out, but only U took part in tho novico Sandieap. The result was as follows-.—G. Bristow, lOOsec, 1; F. Coleman, HOsec. 2; W. Wilson, 70sec, 3. Also started: W. Wilton, lOOsec; S. Murray, 98scc; C. Dunn, 100 sec; A. Coveney, Oosec; 11. Barnes, 115 sec; C. Coad, 75scc; L. Galbraith, 75sec; A. Oliver, TOsec.; A. L. Oliver, ISsec.; M. Eoyuton, -Hisec.; and F. J. Byrne.scr. After tho handicaps had been adjusted, it was found that F.Byrno had secured tho trophy for fastest time.. He covered tho distance in lOmin. 45sec, while the winner's time was 12miu. He should bo heard of when the long distanco events come on. Mr. G. Frost, one of the club's vice-presidents, complimented .the prizewinners on their performances.,. After the race members who were not eligible for the novico handicap held a short run over the Miramar flats. .Tho deputycaptain acted as pacemaker, and at the same time ■ chose tho course, while the captain was whipper-in. A run-in over the last half-milo resulted in an easy win for V. Byrne (i new member), with C. Murray and J. Don finishing second and third respectively.

The Wellington Club's first race of tho season for novices only was decided on Saturday, when twenty odd members journeyed to the Hutt Park racecourse. The course,' though rough, was firm. Tho winner, F. C. Pinckney, ran a good race, catching nil his field in tho first lap. F. Rowberry did likewise, and, although only finishin? second, put rip the fastest time, establishing a new record for this race— 12min. 10 4-sscc, the previous best being Hodson's 12min. 40sec. Peart also ran well, finishing third. The distance was two and a quarter miles. Handicaps and places were as follow:—Pinckney (20sec0, 12mic. 12 2-ssec, 1; F. Rowberry (5-.ee), 12min. 10 Msec, 2; Peart (lOsec.?, 3; Salek (scratch), i; Duclc~(sosec), 5; W. Power (25s«c), .6; Reid (GOsec), 7. Only seven started.
