FIRE ON THORNDON QUAY.
DWELLING GUTTED. The. Fire Brigade were called out a few minutes beforo half-past Hires o'clock yesterday morning to 77 Thorndoii Quay— an eleven-roomed dwelling. Although the brigade reached 'the scene promptly, the fire had (hen obtained a good hold, and flames uero issuing from the front and back of the house. A strong southerly wind fanned them, and. as the construction of the building made it an awkward one to deal with, the. building wiis gutted beforo the outbreak was suppressed. The fire also spread to No. 75, on the south side, a seven-roomed house. Here the side wall was damaged, and as the heat broke the of the windows, the interior of three or four rooms on the first iloor also suffered. No. 79,. a five-roomed house o:i the north side, also had a side wall damaged. The building, which was gutted, is owned by Mr. Arthur Ilall and occupied by Mrs. Bridget Coyle. as a boardinghouse. Mrs. Coylo was absent from home, and there were five boarders and two servant girls on the premises at the tiinc, and one of the latter was awakened i bv the smoke. She alarmed the others, | and all made their escape, but practically did not save anything. The building was insured for .£6OO in the Atlas office, and .£2OO in (ho Royal Exchange, while the contents were covered bv a policy for .£250. No. 7(1, which is owned by Mr. Arthur Hall, and occupied by Mr. Edgar Shaw, was covered by a policy for .£250 in the Atlas office, and ,£SO in the Hoyal Exchange, but the coiltents were not insured. No. 75 is owned by Mv. Owen Daly, and occupied by Mr. Frank I.angmnid. It is insured for JEISO in the Sun Insurance Olhce, and tho contents are covered by a policy for .£IOO in the Alliance office.
