THE BILL CRITICISED. By Telegraph-Press A6sociatton-Covjyrlßhl (Rec, May 15, 0.20 p.m.) London, May 15, Mr. Yeo Davis, in his presidential address to the Southern Confere.nco of tho Manchester Unity Order of Oddfellows, stated that, ho saw in Ihe National Insurance Dill, the possibility of a State interference which might mean the undoing of a century's .work. If tho friendly societies wero safeguarded, Iho Oddfellows would support Mr. LloydGeorge with his measure. Tho chairman at tho general meeting of the National Deposit Friendly Society stated that he regretted that tho national insurance schemo was not .voluntary instead of compulsory. He doubted if the scheme would be tho panacea in sickness and poverty which Mr. Lloyd-George suggested. The council of the Social Deniocratio Party has resolved that, while supporting the principle of national insurance, Mr. Lloyd-George's measure will make the working class bear the burden of ameliorating some of the worst re. suits of the capitalistic system, instead of saddling the cost on the master class. The unemployment clauses were inadequate. A DUTCH SCHEME. The Hague, May H. The Netherlands Government has introduced an Invalidity Insurance Bill. For workmen earning uuder .£IOO per annum the premiums shall be fourponco and tenpenco a week, employers and workmen each paying half. Septuagenarians aro to receive pensions.
