a (From Our Special Correspondent.) Palmcrston, May 15. On Saturday, Mr. R. Hnzelton, the Home Rule envov, accompanied- by Messrs. W. Dovine, M. O'Reilly, ami G. 0. Hurley, motored to Foxton, where the former gave an address, the Mayor of Foxton being in the chair, The party afterwards went on to Shannon, where another address was given by Mr. Hazelton. Last evening Mr. Hazelton was invited to attend a meeting of the Pnlroerston Hibernian Society, by whom he was presented with a gold-watch pendant, as a souvenir of his visit to Palmcrston. Mr. Gk'cson made the presentation, and father Gostello spoke in warmly appreciative terms of the manno; in which Mr. Hazelton was carrying out his mission. The United Valley Cricket Club held its annual social and dance in the Raumai Hall on Priday night. An effort is to be mauo to induco the Palmerston Borough Council to take over the assets and liabilities of the Municipal Brass Band. The College Street Old Boys' Football Club has formed a Harriers' Club, and has arranged to hold runs several times during each week. This is to take the place of the gymnasium training, which, last year, was anything but a success. Mr. J. 0. Batehelar has leased his farm near tho Fiizherbert Bridge to Mr. R. A. M'Keime, of Palmcrston. Mr. Batchelav, who retains his fine residence snd about ten acres of the property, will hold a dispersal sale in June of his purebred herd of Jersey cattle and flock of Romney sheep. Tho Men's Free Club benefited to the extent of JEI2 10s. by tho recent conversazione, which was held to augment the fun.ds. As soon as the old fire brigade station has been removed to the Cuba Street frontage, the'club will be shifted from the Sijuaro into the more commodious premises, the present rooms having become finite inadequate to accommodate tho members who now take advantage of the club.
