(From Our Special Correspondents.) » . FEILDING. . Game appears to be very scarce in tho Apiti district this season, and sportsmen h:i\o got nothing bigger than pigeons and quail. Farmers in our highlands seem to bo expecting a hard winter this year owing to the scarcity of iced. The sheep in some parts arc beginning to sutler already, so that it will go rather hard with them later. Messrs. Redmond and Donovan, the Irish delegates, will be the quests of Mr. and Mrs. M'Manaway, of the Fcilding Hotel, during their coming visit to Fcilding this week. A local farmer states that two of Ms sows littered on open ground last week, the two litters totalling eleven. Two days afterwards ho found only two young ones left, tho balance having been eaten by hawks who left only the bones of their victims. The farmer suggests that the Acclimatisation Society should offer a reward for hawks' heads, as they are getting numerous, and are dangerous, not only to young stock, but also to any sheep which get down: A Feilding and District Sub-Association to the Manawatu Hockey Association has been formed with five clubs affiliated. It is proposed to form a Boy Scouts' Hockey Club and, possibly, a football team. Nomination for affieers and committee for tho Feilding A. and P. Association closed on Saturday. The following nominations have been received:—For president, Mr. Ernest Short: for lion, treasurer, Mr. E. Goodbehere; for general committoo (eight vacancies), Messrs. A. H. Atkinson, F. J. Boddv, H. J. Hooth, A. Campbell, C. G. C. Dermcr, C. Evans, H. W. Hunt. E. Smith, and J. Wilson. Messrs. G. W. Hean (a Feilding chemist) and C. D. Butler (of Christchurch) have purchased tho tallow-refining works at tho Feilding abattoir.

CARTERTON. Mr. G. W. Dellcr, of tlio Cartorton Meat Mart, maris a special display on Fririay evening, which attracted some attention. The beef was from Mr. Joseph Oates's fnnn, the veal from Mr. AY. M'Partland's, and the mutton and lamb from Mr. Jos. Udv. The pork was from Messrs. E. Goodwin and J. AVallis. A very enjoyable concert and daneo in aid of the recreation fnnd of !lip Belvedere Pcliool was held on Friday evening, and was well patronised. Mr. \V. Enrl was M.C. for the dance, and Mr. Fawcelt provided tlie music.
