WEDNESDAY ASSOCIATION. RESULTS OF MATCHES. Karori 3 Pakeha 1 Pefone A 7 Hui Mai 0 Post & Telegraph 3 Potone Q 2 Hereawa 3 Artillery 2 The second series of ganus in tho first round o'f the Wednesday hockey competitions was played yesterday afterncon. The form all round showed a decided improvement on that of tho previous week, in the Karori-Pakeha inatcn some of the players were conspicuous talkers, which practice the referee should not have al-iow-ed. In tho Petono A-Hui Mai encounter, Petone had all the best of tho game, showing more combination and better defence. In the game between Post and Telegraph and P-etone B a first-class game was witnessed, the passing of both teams at times being splendid. Post and Telegraph were handicapped by playing one man short. Jones (P. and T.) was a long wil y the best of tho forwards, his placing of the ball and following up being excellent. Hereawa v. Artillery was a well-fought game. KARORI-PAKEHA. The match Karori v. Pakeha was played at Karori, and the. ground was in first-class .condition. The first spell was very even, the ball going from end to end every few minutes without any ■ score. In the second spell Pakeha opened well, Thompson scoring the first goal. Karori, after a good deal of even play, carried the ball into the Pakeha circle, and Lowe found the net. Karori kept up the attack, and from a forward rush C. Spiers finished up by scoring. Pakeha now 'attacked for a time, and Perry missed a chance to score, and then a passing rush by tho Karori forwards ended in Cole notching a goal. The Pakeha men wera hard at the Karori goal when time was called. The game ended: Karori, 3; Pakeha, 1. For the winners, Cole, Lowe, Cooper, Dyer, and C. Spiers played well, while, for the loser?, Paget, Ellison, G'lapshaw, Thompson, Roach, and Simpson were the best. Mr. Manning h-hs referee. PETONE A-HUI MAI. This match was played on the Basin Reserve, and .resulted in an easy win for Petone by 1 'goals to nil. In the first spell Petone started well, notching two goab in a few minutes. Howe shot the first from a pass by W. M'Ewan, Beswick getting tho second by smart following up. Petone were having all tho best of the game at this stage, and the spell, ended liy Wylie notching the third goal for them. In tha second spell Hui Mai started well but missed many chances of scoring, partly through their forwards overrunning the ball, and partly through the good defence of Petone s full-backs and goalkeeper. The. M'Ewan Brothers started a passing rush, which carried the game into Hui Mai's quarters, and Howe found the net. Shortly after, Beswick added another goal to the Petone score, and, after a loose piece of play by Hui Mai backs, Wylie put on another goal. Just before the call of 'ime Howe again found tho net. For Petone, Howe, Beswick, Wylie, and W. M'Ewan were conspicuous, nnd, for the loosers, Sherwood, Selig. Lippott, and Hoy were the best. Mr. Hollis was tho referee. • ■ ■ HEREAWA-ARTILLERY. This match was. played at Duppa Street, and, after a very even game, resulted in a win for Hereawa by 3 goals to 2. In the first spell, Hereawa had rather the best of the game. They started well, and carried the play into Artillery's quarters, Clementson centring the ball * to Much,, who passed to Smith, the latter scoring. From the "bully-off" Artillery, aftur a good deal of hard play, got into Hereawa's circle, and May found the net. The game!for.some time afterwards was very even, and then Kuch, by quick following up, managed to score tha second goal for Hereawa. . Tho second spell opened with Artillery attacking hard, and only the fine defence of Bruce (in goal) kept the ball out of the net. A mishit by one of the Artillery forwards allowed the Horoawa forwards to carry! the game into their opponents' 25, and. Kuch, taking a quick pass, notched the third goal. Artillery, by some, good play, enabled GilJrspio to find the net. The game ended with the play in Artillery's quarters. For' Artillery, Porter, Ryan, Kivell, May, and Gillospie were very prominent, while for Hereawa, M'Dowell, Clementson, Craff, Dowling, Bruce, and Kuch were the best. Mr. M'llvvid© was referee. TELEGRAPH-PETONE B. ] This game was played at Petone, and, after a hard-fought tussle, resulted in a win for the Post and Telegraph representatives by 3 goals to 2. From the "bully-off" Post and Telegraph rushed the ball in,to the Petone circle, and compelled the latter to grant a corner, from which Jones scored the first goal. Shortly afterwards, Jones again found the net. Post aud Telegraph wero having all the best of the game at this stage, but, just before half-time, the Petone forwards got a good passing rush on, and Riddle found tho net. The spell ended: Post and Telegraph, 2 goals;. Petone, 1 goal. In the second spell, the Petone forwards, playing with more combination, put up a great fight, often got into Post and Telegraph quarters only to lose, their chance of scoring by over-running the ball. From a passing rush, headed by, Jones, M'Kewon found the net for Post and Telegraph. On play restarting, Post ami Telegraph carried the ball down the field, and Jones had a shot at goal, just missing the net by. a. few inches. Then Petone, by good play, carried the game into the other 2.5, where Riddel!, by a smart piece of play, notched a score.
BROOKLYN HARRIERS.
THE WEDNESDAY BRANCH. Another club (a Wednesday branch) has been formed in connection with the. Brooklyn Harriers and it has been decided to open the season next Wednesday at Newtown Park, when Mr. K. A. Wright, M.P. (club president), will be present. The election of office-bearers was allowed to stand over until next week. In the meantime Mr. G. Scott, jate of the Dunedin Harriers, will act as captain and secretary. A committee meeting of the Wednesday and Saturday clubs is to be held on Friday, May 12.
