(From Our Special Correspondent.* 9 BAZAAR- AT PETOXE. Yesterday afternoon a bazaar to assist (ho I'etone Presbyteriaii Church building fund was opened in the Drill Hall by Mr. T. J[. AVitfonl, JI.P. A great stock of goods was displayed in stalls arranged round tho hall, these bearing testimony to tho industrious, efforts ot the ladies who were responsible for organising the bazaar. A novel foalurc was a- cooking competition, and a table in the centre of Iho lloor iras laden with ii rather tempting display of cake?, scones, and pastry, which had been entered for the competition.
In introducing Mr. Wilford tho !Rev. A. Thomson stated that the sum of i'.'iOD had been raised during the past three years, and paid oil tho original debt of .£130(1. It was hoped that a further sum of .CIOO would be paid off as the result of the present bazaar, .lie al>o detailed the progress of the church izi recent years and (apropos of this) Mr. Wilford complained that there was nothing left him to say. "1 have,'' he remarked, "to fill in the time by saying what 1 was going to say if Mr. Thomson had not said it already!"
The following are in charge of the stalls: Fancy goods, Mosdamos Mather und Cody; handkerchief .stall, .Alices Johnston, Colquhoun, Robinson, and Moore; gentlemen's goods stall,- Misses Caldicott and Laundy; plain stall, si'. David's Sewing Guild; doll stall, Misses Carter and Caverhill; produce stall, Mesdames Bennett and Hope; flower stall, Misses J'cist, Dalglie«h, and' Gordon; sivpcts stall, Misses Bennett, Allandor, and Thom-on; soft drinks, Misses Cochrane, K. Caverhill, and Brooks; children's stall, JhV?es .Tones, M'lutyrc, Austin, and Amis; crystal stall, Mrs. Jackson; bran pie, Misses Woollett and Head; tea room, .Uesdamos Wilson and Campbell; fainwell, Misses Wilson and F.ifYc; cake stall, Mesdames Naughton and Austin. Mrs. A. Thomson is acting as general superin-. tendent of the stalls.
There was n largo attendance throughout Iho day. In tho evening a number of musical items were given, and various competitions wero got oft'. Tho bazaar will be continued until Friday evening. HUTT PIPE BRIDGE. At last night's meeting of the Hutt Park Committee the chairman (Mr. H. Baldwin) took exception to a, statement , appearing in a Wellington newsjiaper (The Dominion) accusing tho committee, of delaying the construction of tho road connecting the new pipe bridge across the Hutt River with the Waiwetu Bridge. Mr. Baldwin pointed out that the committee had given its consent to the work somo six weeks ago—as soon as it had been asked for, in fact. Whoever was to blaini' for the delay, it certainly was not the Hutt Park Committee. HUTT PARK COMMITTEE. At last night's meeting of the Hutt Park Committee- a letter was received from Messrs. I'inlay, Dalzicl and Co. on behalf of their client, Mr. C. I- , . i!ceve, disputing the committee's claim to a certain section of six acres adjoining the Hutt Park. This section lias been leased by tho committee for the past, three year?, but it was recently discovered that iin Act of Parliament of 1007 hail declared tho section to be a part of the park. According to Messrs I'inlay, P/alziel and Co., a later Act, passed in 1910, transferred the section to their client. In discussing the question, Mr. .T. W. M'Kwan pointed out that the section undoubtedly belonged to the .commitleo until into, and lie thought that (lio Crown had noted illegally in transferrin},' the- title to Mr. Hoove without, (jiving tho Park Committee notice of its intention to transfer. It was resolved to ask tho member for the district, Mr. T. M: Wilfoid, to lodijo ;>. protest with the Minister against tho Crown's action, and (o claim compensation for Ihe expense which the committee had incurred through the Crown's error.
