EMPIRE TRADE &. INDUSTRIAL COMMITTEE.

IMPORTANT ACTION BY THE ROYAL COLONIAL INSTITUTE. For some time past tho Royal Colonial Instituio has had under consideration the question of identifying itself in a more active manner with tho furtherance ot Empire trade and industrial interests, and at the last meeting of the council it was agreed to form a representative committee of men of affairs to carry out the institute's work in this connection. This committee will include, .amongst others Sir J. Bi'van Edwards, K.C.M.G., Sir Godfrey Lagdcn, K.C.M.G.. Sir Daniel Morris, K.C.M.G., the Hon. Sir Cornthwaitc Rason, Mr. Henry Birchenough, C.M.G., Mr. Richard Jeljb, Mr. Ben H. Morgan, Colonel John Dennv, Major Archer Slkc, M.D., Mr. Hugo Hirst (chairman Manufacturers' Association), Mr. Stanley Jilachin (chairman London Chamber of Commerce), Mr. Edward Manville (chairman Society of Motor Manufacturers and Traders), Sir AV. Thomas Lewis, i-.nd Sir. R. K. Morcom.

Tho work of this committee at the outset will include the arranging of industrial conferences with a view to regulating and co-ordinating Empire trade conditions, and by means of lectures at tho institute itself, aiul before tho Chambers of Commerce aud other trado bodies and institutions throughout tho country to make more widely known the opportunities that exist in the Overseas Dominions for British trade and capital, and, on the other hand, to place the British merchant and manufacturer in touch with the sources that are available within tho Empire for the supply of raw materials and ether products. It is hoped in this way to find an increased market for British goods in the colonics, and, on the other hand, to increase the demand in Great Britain for Empire products. British manufacturers, merchants, shippers, brokers, and others interested in the work of this; committee are invited ((• communicate with the secretary of the institute at Northumberland Avenue, London.
