HUNTSMEN AND HOUNDS.

A; MANAWATU HUN. (By Tolograph.-SDCcia! Correspondent.) Palmerston, May 7. The Manawatu Hiint Club held a successful "meet", at Fitzhcrbert East on.Saturday afternoon, there being a large field of- followers, ■ and a big crowd of spectators. The huntsmen assembled at the residence of the president of the club (Mr. -S. E. Lancaster), the throw-off taking plneo in the lower paddocks, and the first , check was at the homestead. Then a second run was held from there across tfyn properties of -Messrs. Kyle, AnderFon, and Stace, .checking again at Mr. Stace's residence. The final run of the day was through Mr. Peterson's paddocks and back to Mr. Lancaster's homestead. Hero refreshments were dispensed by Mrs. Lancaster and Mrs. Shaw.

Show '(deputy-master) was in chaxgo of the field, and Mr. J.. Shaw acted as'whip. Thc'tfrags were laid,by Messrs. 11. E. and H. Lancaster over some really good hunting country, and the "meet" proved an..enjoyable one. At its conclusion, Mr. J. U. Jamieson moved a hearty vote of thanks to the ladies who had so kindly provided refreshments, and to the property owners. This was carried by acclamation.

Lumsden on Katipo, Bruce M'Ewen on Belle, Noel Good on Chasse, and J. P. Connor on Ennerdale. MEETING 'OF COMMITTEE. A meeting of the committee of the Hunt Club was held at tho secretary's office in the evening, when there were.present: Messrs. S. E. Lancaster (chairman), B. M'Ewen, J. P. Connor, J. Donaldson, H. M'Ewen, J. G. Jamieson, L. Lumsdeii, M. M'Ewen, H. Lancaster, T. Shaw, J. L. Buick, JV. D. Buchanan, and J. Sweeney.

The chairman Teported that Messrs. Collison and Cunninghame had consented to allow their cup to ho competed for at the winter show, and it was decided that one of tho conditions of the competition should be that horses must have followed the hounds at least three times during the present season.

The resignation of Mr. G. Shannon, who is leaving the district, was received with regret, and Mr. Bruce M'Ewen was elected to fill the vacancy of master.

It was decided to form a committee at Fcilding with a view to getting some runs in thai; district. The chairman reported that , four hounds had been received from Napier, and it was resolved to secure'a number of others from Auckland to strengthen tho pack.

The following new members were elected :-Meisrs. E.. Short and 11. M'Manaway (Feilding); T. H. Thompson (Rar,?)'otii); Ivor Bartholomew (Wereroa); T. Wehipeihana (Ohan).
