At, r last night's meeting of the Christehurch Technical Collego Board of Govtrnors, the .director reported as follows m, regard to compulsory military'training:— ' ' "In order that compulsory military training might cause as little disturbance \S possible to the work of our students, I have applied to the Defence Department asking that half companies of senior cadets and of Territorials may be formed from- the. Technical College ,sturicnts, and that they may be allowed to do'thV'wn6To : of their graining during the vacations for cadets. The course required is 50 one hour drills/ and six halt-day parades, so : , -thot;tliero:sWu!i-be no difficiiHj; in putting' .them.' in■during the vacations. It should also be possible..'to provide dur-. ing the vacations for the course for Territorials,- which consists of 30 drills of one and'a, half hours-each, and 12 halfday.. parades, , with, seven days' t annual training ,in camp. The reply which I have received from the Inspector of Senior Cadets is,- as follows:— ■','!1 think that.we can arrange for the training of those under eighteen • years of age to take place . during . their vacations. Those over.the ago of eighteen will receive every consideration when posting commences.' "Unless (continues the director) this is jo'arranged, it is certain that, military training will greatly interfere with educational work.\ The great majority of Dur. students are attending classes on three evenings in the week, and many of them four, and, as they have also home work to do, it is obvious that any further demands mado upon their time during the term will bo a serious obstacle to progress."
