To-day the Hon. J. Carroll, the Hon. D. Buddo, the Hon. G. Fowlds, and the Hon. T. Mackenzie will be in Wellington; the Hon. R. M'Kemie in Taranaki, the Hon. J. A. Millar in Dunedin, and the Hon. A. T. Ngata on tho East Coast.
A royal salute was fired by H.JI.S. Cambrian at noon on Saturday in honour of the anniversary of the accession of King George V, and the Acting-Prime Minister (Hon. J. Carroll) and members of the Cabinet went off to the cruiser and made a formal call on Captain Weniyss. Mr. Carroll received a cablegram from Sir Joseph Ward, stating that, on behalf of the people of New Zealand, he had laid a wreath on tho tomb of his late Majesty King Edward VII.
Captain Colin Macdouald, assistant marine superintendent of tho Union Steam Ship Company, was a passenger by the Tarawera from Dunedin yesterday. He will proceed to Auckland tn join the Navua for Suva, where he will connect with the Mcratna for Vancouver on his way to England.
Dr. Izard is to address the elector* nt the Sydney Street Hall on Wednesday, May J7, not Wednesday next as had been stated.
Captain Knyvet t and his counsel, Mr. DawsDn, of Auckland, have arrived in town.
Mr. James Allon, M.P., arrived from the south yesterday morning, and leaves by to-day's Main Trunk express. He will deliver a political address at Hamilton to-morrow night, and at Tauuiarunui on Wednesday.
Sir Robert Stout, Chief Justice, returns this evening from New Plymouth, whither he went last Friday on business connected with the Prisons Board.
Constable P. Jone?, having been promoted to be chief bailiff at Christchuroh, Constable J. A. Dcmp?ey has been appointed to take his place as orderly at the Magistrate's Court, Wellington.
MV.'-'T.' C A.'''liislbjv'barrister-at-law, of the Inner Temple, London, and lato of Caius College, Cambridge, younger son of the Hon. ~T. W. Hislop, of this city, returned to Wellington recently. Mr. Hislop, who took a high place in his Bar Final examination, is at present preparing for admittance to the Bar here. Ho is at present staying with his brother, Dr. Hislop.
Mr. AY. Pepper (Wanganuil, who is retiring from the railway service on superannuation after 28 years' service, was entertained by a largo number of railway men on Saturday night, and presented with a substantial purse of sovereigns.—Press Association.
A Press Association message from London slates that Captain B. F. Burnett Hitchcock, of the Nottinghamshire and Derbyshire! Regiment, has been selected for duty in New Zealand.
Messrs. E. Short and D. P. Buchanan waited on the Oroua County Council on Friday with regard to tho memorial to tho late Mr. \Vheoler, the well-knowr sheepbrecder. Mr. Short said it was proposed—and a committee'had been set up lor that purpose—to try aud raise XlCu to erect a sheep pavilion on tho Manawatu showground. So far the committee had received splendid offer? of support, and in all probability they would receive more than .£IOOO. Hβ present pd to Iho chairman a plan of the proposed pavilion, and said they would like to ask the Oroua Comity Council if they could «o their way to make froia the county funds a donation towards (hi fund. In the course of Iho subsequent discussion Councillor liurrell objected lo nutting up sheep pens on private property in Palmerston as a memorial to Mr. Wheeler. If it were proposed to add a wing to the hospital he would support the fund. Tho chairman, Councillor Pcarco, in concluding the discussion, said if it could bo legally done,. he thought the ratepayers in tho county would like to do something as a testimony of their appreciation of the work the lato chairman had done. All they could do was to undertake to send a reply to the deputation when they had looked into the matter.
Tho death occurred in Wellington yesterday of Mr. Hobert Wardrop, lato of Motueka, aged 50 years.
