THE BOROUCH OF ONSLOW.
Sir, —In your paper of 4th. instant you give' particulars of the census of (inter alia) the. Borough of Onslow, and there you siiow that the census of 1906 was 200S, while for 1911 it is only 173fi. This is misleading, as since 1006 AVadestown went out of the- borough, and became part of Greater AYellington. . i
At that time tho population of AYndestown was S3J, and if that number is deducted from the 1906 census, Onslow, as at present constituted, bad a population of 1261, while to-day it has 1736,. an increase of 472..
Then in regard to uninhabited bouses you state that in the borough there are •12. On going into these ligures, it turns out that about 26 of these- are one-roomed slieds or wharcs that iiro used chiefly to store tools, so that tho owners of the sections may, in their spare time, improve. their property, Of the remaining JO, some were uninhabited because their owners had gono temporarily to the seaside. ■Tho total number, therefore, of really empty houses (that is, if anyone wished ■ to take a bouse- in Onslow) will bo reduced to less than a dozen. you for inserting this, —I am, etc., . . F. HOLDSWORTH, " Mayor of Onslow. May 5.
