(From Our Special Correspondent.) Mastorton, May 5. A sitting of the Magistrate's Court was held to-day before i\lr.-L. G. Keid, S.M. John Henderson was charged with using improper language in a public .street. He was lined 205., iu default .seven days' imprisonment, on i-Bcli charge. Thomas Wilson was charged with having driven a vehicle within Ihe borough between the' hours ol : sunset and sunrise without a light. He was lined ss. and costs 7s. C'lu-irlos I'lvans, of Cartertoii, was charged with driving a motor-car at an excessive speed in a public highway. A lino of "20s. was imposed with costs 7s. Percy Wethers appeared on a charge of having exceeded the speed-limit ivhile driving a motor-car in a public thoroughlare. Accused was fined 55., and costs ISs. James Brown, jun., was charged with a breach of the by-laws, having ridden a bicycle within the borough be*tween tho hours of sunset and sunrise without a light. He was lined 55., and costs 7s. Walter Webb was fined 2s. bd. and costs 75., ou a similar charge. A like cliargo was preferred against lioy Grey, who was fined 55., and costs is. 15. Lothwick was charged with having allowed his chimney to take fire. A iine of Is. and costs" 7s. was imposed. A lad, named James Harris, was charged at tho Juvenile Court today with committing theft of a bicycle valued at £o, the .property of Clivo Buchanan; also that hn did break and enter the .shop of Patrick Hamill, diaper, and commit thuft of goods of a total value of £38; that he did break and outer tho shop of William Wilkes and steal chocolate and various kinds of confectionery to tho value of £1 os.; that he did break and enter the shop of 11. Benle and Co. and steal about 20s. in money and goods 'to the valuo of £2 IDs. . His Worship committed accused to the Burnham Industrial School. An order was made for the return of the , stolen goods to their respective owners. The annual meeting of the Mastorton , Morns Tube Club was held in tho Do- : mnnon Hall last night, there, being a good muster of members., Reference was made to the death of tho late Mr. . Henry Holmes, who was patron of the . club. A motion of condolence with ,■ Mrs. Holmes and family was passed. The balance-sheet showed the club to ho in- a sound financial position. Tho liabilities were shown as nil, and tho assets as £17 6s. lid. Tho following officers were elected:—Patron. Dr. Cook; president, Mr. 0. Pragnell; vicepresidents, Messrs. J. M. Coradine. T. Evans, J. Smith, and It. J. King; captain, Mr..E. Perry; secretary and treasurer, Mr. H. Perry. It was left in the hands of the executive to procure . riflc/3, and, if necessary, new tubes for tho opening of tho season on May 17. A motion of thanks was passed to Sir. ( M. M'lntosh for past services to the club.

A special meeting of the Masterton Mounted Rifles is to bo held on Saturday for the purpose of registering all members who desire to continue service under tho now defence scheme.

Tho next run in connection with the "Wairarnpa Hunt is to he held at Blairlogic on May 13.

Members of the Masterton Homing Pigeon Club flew their last raco of the season from the south yesterday. The first bird to reach home was W. Hoar's "Sensible," with J. Dixon's "Goldfinder" second. This race, which was from Blenheim, dceidetl tho winner of the main aggregate. Mr. J. Dixon secures" first place, defeating A. Miller by two points.

The hockey season opened in earnest yesterday. 'In tlio senior m'atches, Excelsior defeated Post and Telegraph, and Carterton beat St. Matthew's. The Excelsior juniors were defeated by Martinborough. The ladies' fixtures have been drawn, and commence on Thursday next.

A total of 511 names have been registered in JMastcrton to date in connection with the now defence scheme.

A fall of about 1000 tons of stone caino down in a limestone quarry at Mauriccvillo the other day. This is tho biggest fall of its kind recorded for years.
