NEW MAYORS.

(By Telegraph—Press Association.) Christchurch, May 3. Mr. T. Taylor, M.P., was installed as Mayor this evening, and outlined a civic policy for the coming year, including the reconstruction of 30 or 35 miles of city streets, and paying municipal employees something more than a minimum wage, both without increase of rates. He hoped the completion of the • Lake Coleridge hydro-electrical scheme would have the effect of attracting population and encouraging the establishment of industries. He suggested that the city should obtain legislative powers necessary for the effective establishment of municipal markets and milk supply.
