ACCIDENTS AND FATALITIES.
BODY IN THE BOAT HARBOUR, ', INQUEST PROCEEDINGS. Tho City Coroner (Dr. A. M'Arthur, S.M.) held an inquest at the morgue yesterday altcrnoo'i touching tho death of au elderly man named Thomas Henry Macautey, about 70 years of age, whoso body had been foaud. in the Boat Harbour yesterday morning. Station-Sergeant Darby represented the police. Thomas William Macauley, eldest son of deceased, and residing at 225 Rintoul Street, identified tho body as that of his father. Witness last saw deceased alive on Wednesday morning, April 26, at his (witness's) mother's house at 7 Leeds Street. At that lime deceased was under tho influence ol drink, and was still in tho house when witness left there about midday. Deceased when drinking used to wander about to the various residences of his married children. Ho had left Leeds Street about 5 p.m. on tho Wednesday, and had gone in a cab to vote at the Druids' Hall. No member of Hie family had since seen him. Inquirieshad been made among members of the family until Sunday, but without eliciting information. On Monday the matter had been reported to tho police. Deceased had been separated from his wife, and when not residing with mcmliers of his family had lived a'onc in a property of his own at Newtown. Neal Walker M'Bridc. caretaker of the Boat Harbour, gave evidence as to discovery of the body. It had apparently been in the water for at, least three or four days. Constable M'Kelvey also gave evidence. ■ A verdict of found drowned was returned. LAKE WAIRARAPA TRAGEDY. THE BOATS USED BY- SPORTSMEN. (By Tclezraph.—SEocial Correspondent.) Fcatherston, May i. At the inquest touching tho drowning accident on Lake Wairarapa, a verdict of -accidental death was returned. The Coroner (Jtr. J. T. 11. Hornsby) commented on the .risks undertaken by sportsmen on the lake in the class of boats which they used, and he also referred- to - tho coolness and presence of mind displayed by Laurence Donald, the young man who rescued the two survivors.- - But foiv his promptness the loss of'life- would have ken greater. ~ BURNS RESULT FATALLY.
