Mis morning he will visit the oil works at Moturoa, afterwards receiving deputations. Mr. M'Kenzie will leave for Waitara this evening and beloro returning to AVellington will visit Opiinake, Stratford, and Whangamomona.—Press Association. Included among the passengers -who arrived by tho Ulimaroa from Svdney last night were Major and Mrs. Andrews, tho Rev. Mr. Culliford, the Rev. Mr. Dewdnoy, and Messrs. Zohrab and Alack. Mr. P. ,1. Jones, who has been court orderly at the Magistrate's Court for some time past, has been appointed chief bailiff at Christchnrch, and leaves here for the south on Tuesday next. Mr. Xathaii Lieber, at one time a partner in tho firm of Lieber and I'auli, of Wellington, died on Tuesday, aL the age of 54 years. Tho deceased, who had been a resident of Wellington for twenty-two years, was born at tiuolil, in Germany, and resided at JDitnedin before settling in Wellington. He leaves a widow nml two [laughters. Captain J. A. H. Marciel, Superintendent of Mercantile Marino' at Lytielton, is a passenger by tho Kaikoura ior London, on six months' holiday leave. He is accompanied by Miss i'larcicl. Captain H. \\. T. Willcox is relieving' Captain Marciel. Mr. E. B. L. Heade, eldest son of the late Mr. Lawreiico Keado, solicitor, of Fox ton, who is to bo married to-day, has received handsome presentations from the railway goods staff and from tho choir of St. Anne's, Wellington South, of which he is conductor. Mr. lioade has also bo-en entertained by the young men of St. Anne's parish. Tho Mayor of Gisborne (Mr. W. D. Lysnar) was operated on in Wellington yesterday for an affection of tho eye. H« is progressing as favourably as 'can be expected. Lieutenant H. P. Rennick, of the Terra Nova, who has been granted a fortnight's leave of absence, is at present visiting this city. Engineer-commander Cleave, of H.M.S. Cambrian, was a passenger from Syd- : ney to Wellington last night. He is proceeding Homo via San Francisco. Mr. S. Keedwell, manager of tho Greytown branch of the Wairarapa Farmers' Co-opcrativo Association, leaves this week on a fix months' visit to England. Coad, two wellknown New Zealand shearers, who had left the Dominion to go to Queensland, were (says the Wairarapa "Times") on board the Yongala when she was wrecked. Captain Thomas Chrisp, a very old resident, formerly harbourmaster at Gjsborne, died last night, aged 74. lie leaves a widow and grown-up family of four sons and one daughter. One son is captain E.
