Wedding at Marton. A very quiet wedding took place at St. Stephen's Chnreh, Marton, on Wednesday, April 26, when Miss Mnbcl Henrietta Sicely, eldest daughter of Mr. J. F. Sicely, of Marton, was married to Mr. James Kemp, of Upper Hutt. The Rev. V. 11. Kitcat was the officiating clergyman. The bride wore a very pretty frock of ivory crepe do chine, trimmed with gold-thread-ed embroidery, and a beautifully embroidered veil, with a wreath of orange blossoms.' She was attended by her two sisters—Miss Amy and Miss Clara Sicely— but\ wearing cmtuoidiHwl frocks uf Indian muslin and chiffon hats. The bride and bridesmaids carried ivory-bound prayer books, and the latter wore pearl brooches, the gifts of the bridegroom. Mr. W. Schierning, of Paekakariki, attended the bridegroom as best man, and 3lr. Aubrey Sicely, of Dannevirke, was groomsman. The bridegroom's gift to the bride was a gold locket ;uid chain, and thatuf the bride to the bridegroom a gold watch, chain, and pendant. Miss Armstrong presided at tho organ, nnd played Mendelssohn's "Wedding March" as the bridal party left the church. After tho ceremony the guests wtie untcrtiiinctl :\t Gould's Cafe, the tables being very prettily decorated with Marechal Kiel roses. The wedding presents included a great many beautiful thing.-!, nnd some cheques as well. Later in the day -Mr. and Mrs. Kemp left for tile north, the bride wearing a navy blue tnilor-made costume with vieux-rose hat. A Welcome to the Homo Rulers. Yesterday the ladies of St. Mary's branch of the Hibernian Society entertained Messrs. Donovan, Hazelton, and Redmond at the residence of Mr., Martin Kennedy, tho Revs. Father Venning aud Hickson and some of' the officers of the men's lodge being also present. The president of the brauch (Sister K. Robinson) welcomed them, nnd hoped that they would meet with success in connection with their mission, • nnd that, on thenreturn to England, they would be in time to vote with tho "ayes" on the Home Rule Bill. The delegates were then presented, by Miss Robiuson with an address each. Mr. Donovan said that, ns a brother Hibernian,-, he accepted with ■Erati.tude ( - i thp address which embodied the ■ftisftei or ill who had the cause of Homo Rule at heart. On- his last visit to New Zealand great support had been given the cause by the ladies. At Home they were working for the attainment of national selfgovernment such as we had in New Zealand, and he hoped that, within two years' time, it would be attained. 1 The satisfactory position that they were now. in was due in a large measure to the; determination and magnificent support 'given by tho ladies of the Old Land. When England was in a barbaric state, ■Ireland was far advanced, and it was Ireland's missionaries who had spread learning aiul enlightenment throughout tho country. Soon, he hoped, she would regain her place, and, when the next Home Rule missionaries visited the Dominion, it would be (he hoped) to tell them that Ireland had regained her liberty. Mr. Redmond thanked those present for the welcome, and declared that, in all their political fights, Home Rulers had had the women on their side. In parts of the North of Ireland, where their enemies were centred, victory had been won by the work of tho ladies. They were under a deep debt of gratitude to women all the world over for the way in which they had upheld tlio cause. Mr. Hazelton said that a mistaken idea had gained ground that Home Rulers desired to set up a Catholic ascendancy in Ireland. That was not the case. It was justice and equality of all creeds and classes and not a Protestant ascendancy that they wanted. ■ He was j;lad to say that they were now near the attainment .of their hopes. Calm Lady—Al Hareem. Says our Auckland correspondent :•—A lady who ventured into Queen Street yesterday afternoon, wearing the ha'ran skirl, immediately becuino the centre of a crushing, pushing, and pjaculatory crowd. Secured from identification by a heavy veil, the lady look a calm view of the' ill manners of tho crowd, and suffered their pleasantries until an asylum offered in a passing car. She stepped into tho ml- nmidst renewed remarks and some cheering, and passed away from the crowd which ilissolveil iuio individual contemplation of the fatuousness of its behaviour. W.S. and P.L. The annual meeting of'the'Women's Social nnd Political .League was held in the Socialist Hall last evening. The re--port and balance-shoot were read and adopted, and it was shown that the Ica»ue, which has been in existence for the last fifteen years, is in a satisfactory financial position, aud progress is being steadily maintained.
