ACCIDENTS AND FATALITIES.
PAINFUL OCCURRENCE. (By Telesraph.-Spacial Correspondent.) Palmerston, May 2. A man named G. Gcdson had his feet badly crushed at tho railway station today through.some heavy timber, which ho was handling slipping .off a truck. Ho was found to bo badly hurt when extricated. MOTOR CYCLE COLLIDES.WITH " ' ' ' BUGGY. ' (By Telegraph— Press AESOciation.) Dunedin, May 2. A. serious accident occurred at Waikouaiti about 5 p.ir.. 10-day. As Mrs. Bannatyne,.who.was accompanied, by her parents, was driving along the road a motor cycle, ridden by the Eev. J. Sommorville, •of Palmerston, collided with the buggj-, which was capsized. The occupants of the buggy received a number of cuts and bruises, but Mr. Sommerville fared the worst. He was unconscious when' picked un, and had not recovered consciousness two hours later. A FATAL COLLISION. Invercargill, May 2. . At an inquest on -Arthur William Mitchell,. who . was killed as tho result of a collision with a taxicab on Saturday night, the jury found that death was due to a collision, but. that, in view of the contradictory nature of the evidence, they wero unable to. say how the accident occurred.. The jury wre of opinion, however, that, the cab. driver committed an error of judgment in not immediately applying the brakes after the collision with the cyclist. DROWNED IN AUCKLAND HARBOUR Auckland, May 2. G. Edbrooke, a greaser on the steamer Paparoa, while., going aboard last night islipped from the gangway, .fell into tho harbour, and was drowned. It is believed he was a married man, hailing from Bristol. DESCENDING FIRE ESCAPE. y. Uhristchurch, May 2. Robert Fullerton, an elderly man, who arrived in Christchurch last night from Timaru, died in the hospital to-day as the result of injuries received by falling from an hotel fire escape. He apparently left his room at the hotel after closing time, with/the intention: of going down the.fire escape, and late at night he was found lying in the hotel yard with his skull fractured.' SUDDEN DEATR Woodville, May 2. This afternoon a man named Jack Keegan, employed as a billiard-marker at the Club Hotel, dropped down.dead at the Commercial Hotel. The deceased is well known in the Wairarapa. ENTANGLED IN A ROPE. A single man, named Patrick Hennessy, 50 years of age, was admitted to the hospital yesterday, suffering from a broken leg. The accident was caused by his leg becoming entangled in a rope with which he was tethering a cow.
