MAY DAY IN PARIS.

Despite the Government's decision (o prohibit Labour demonstrations on May Day, on the ground that they would interfere with traffic,, intending demonstrators attempted to gather in the Place d) la Concorde, tho square.north of tho Seino and west of tho Tuileries. Their way vras barred, however, and they then assembled in the Champs Elysees, the boulevard extending .from tho Placo do li ConcoVde for a distance of ono and a quarter miles. Cuirassiers charged the mob, and several arrests, including that of ji man charged with firing a revolver, were made. A policeman irns stabbed in the back during the disturbance. A GATHERING IN SYDNEY. Sydney, May 2. The Socialists held a May Day meeting and adopted a resolution repudiating the so-called Labour parties of Australia, and condemning tho conscription laws. THE WORKMEN OVERAWED. . (Rec. May 3, 0.23 a.m.) Paris, May 2. The troops in the city on May Day were not hidden as formerly was tho case, but instead patrolled the streets in strong detachments, and c.verawed the hundred thousand workmen who were holidaymaking.' A number of minor disturbances took place, and 81 arrests were made. Thirteen policemen, 25 soldiers, and SO civilians were injured.
