WAIRARAPA P. & A. SOCIETY.
ANNUAL BEPORT. The annual general meeting of tho AYairarapa and East Coast Pastoral and Agricultural Society is to bo liekl in the Agricultural Ilall, at tho showgrounds, on May 5. The annual report and the balance-sheet have been printed and are being circulated. The report congratulates the members on the increased popularity of the society, and tho good name the society's show has won in the Dominion, as evidenced by the balance-sheet and the number of lettors of congratulation received, and more particularly by tho increase in members subscriptions and entry fees. Continuing, it stated that the show of 1010 would be remembered as eclipsing all others the society had hold in the number and quality of stock exhibited, although the rain on both days prevented the record hoped to be achioved in attendance. The entry fees had increased by «£32 over last year, which spoke well for the value of the awards to breeders and their loyal support of the society. In the show receipts there was a falling off, which was accounted for by tho weather, but tho amount received at stands and gates, considering tho rain, was a very pleasant surprise. Tho membership was now 583, which was a record for the society, and it behoved members to endeavour to increase the number during the coining year, to well over tho 600, which should not bo a difficult matter to accomplish. The committee have avoided any expenditure on permanent improvements, but at the same time the Ground Committee has maintained the show grounds and buildings in excellent repair. The stock sale held for the first time at last showwas not made use of to any great extent b.v breeders, although numbers of pens of fat stock were sold by the auctioneers. As this feature becomes more widely known, it is hoped cntries_ will increase. During the year the society ' held its first ploughing match, which, in spite of heavy rain, was a pronounced success, was well attended, and generously supported by donations from various parts of the Valley. It was intended holding the next match somewhat earlier this vear, but the place has not yet been fixed. "We desire (tho report proceeds) on behalf of the society, to cordially thank exhibitors, especially those from other districts, and judges, who generously assisted tho society to defray losses caused bv the wet weather, by returning their prize money and expenses. The kindly thought and action were greatly appreciated. We also havo to thank the donors to the prize fund for the valuable help they have given, and also the stewards and judges who worked so well and successfully to keep the annual fixture up to its high standard." Tho president, vice-presidents, treasurer, auditor, and a portion of tho committee would retire according to tho rules.
