THE REFERENDA VOTE
MR. HUGHES DISSATISFIED. By Telegraph—Press Association-Copyrisht Sydney, May 1. The Federal Referenda figures arc still incomplete, though the small balance to como cannot affect the result. Approximately, out' of a vote of over a million, the Referenda proposals have been defeated by a quarter of a million. Mr. W. M. Hughes, Acting-Federal Prime Minister, is not satisfied with the result. Ho alleges that tho returning officers at' some of the booths recommended the electors to voto "No." An investigation is being made into this and other allegations. Mr. Hughes also states that' the Referenda proposals will be submitted at the general election in 1913. He claims thr.t it is by the decision of a minority which had chosen to vote that the Commonwealth is still unable to legislate with regard to industrial powers and monopolies. LOST AT WI1)B BAY. Brisbane, May 1. The Wide Bay electorate—which has returned the Federal Prime Minister, Mr. Fisher, as its representative since 1901 —voted strongly against the Referenda proposals.
