The by-election for the Cheltenham seat, rendered necessary through the unseating, on petition, of Mr. Richard Mathias, resulted in the return of Mr. Agg-Gardnor (Unionist), tho voting being:— Mr. Agg-Gardner (Unionist) ... 4,043 Major Mathias (Liberal) 4,039 [At the election in December, Mr. Richard JJathias (Liberal) polled 3SIG against 3753 votes recorded for Lord DunCannon. Major Mathias is a brother of tho unseated member.]
