To-day all the Cabinet Ministers will be in the city, with the exception of the Hon. T. Mackenzie, who is in Taranaki. It is understood that Mr. J. AY. Jl'Kwai', Mayor of I'ctouc, will bo a candidate for the Hutt electorate at the mxt general election.. Sir James Mills, managing director for the Union Steam Ship Company, will bo a passenger by the Muitai ior San Frauciscu. this trip. Sir James Mills, who is proceeding Home, will be accompanied by Mr. Ritchie, one of the directors of the company. The Rev. T. H. Sprott, Bishop-elect of Wellington, preaching at St. Paul's, 'l'hornilcn, yesterday, remarked that that would probably .be the last occasion on which he would speak to the congregation as vicar of thu parish. Ho said it was not likely that his successor would be able to commence work beforo August. H> had, theiefore, arranged that the Rev. 1' G. Evans, formerly vicar of St. Mary's, New Plymouth, should take charge of the parish during May, and that the Rev. H. Williams, who had been acting for Archdeacon Harper, of Timaru, during the letter's absence in England, should commence work in June and continue until the new vicar—who has not yet been chosen—was able to take over the control of the parish.
Mr. James Tarr, a well-known resident of Karori, died at his residence, Allenton Road, yesterday. The deceased,- who was 51 years of age, leaves a widow. Tlw Right Re-. Monsignor Fowler conducted the service at the Roman Catholic Church, Petone, !ast evening. There was a largo congregation. Captain C. M'Donald, assistant superintendent of marine for the Union Steam Snip Company, leaves for Home, via Canada, this week, on business connected with the company's building operations.— Pre=s Association. The St. Vincent senior cadet company, which has been recently formed, has issued a challenge to the St. Anne's company for a physical drill competition to tjike place at the Catholic Bazaar which is at present being held in the Town Hall. Being a young company the squad has had only four weeks to train for the event, but lias shown good form, owing to the keen interest which the boys have taken in their work. The company will leave for the hall in procession this evening at 7.30 o'clock. The annual general meeting of the Wellington Roxinp Association will bo held at the Chamber of Commerce, Customhcuso Quay, on Friday next, Mny 5, at 8 p.m.
