Wanganui, April 20. • The annual meeting of the Beautifying Society discussed a sujjgestioa to mako the face of St. John's Hill, bordering the railway line into :i botanical garden, with a special view to perpetuating native llora. Ths idea was heartily approved by tho meeting, and a committee was set up to draft a fclieine for submission to the IJoroujh Council. Tho society has already a considerable number of native plants growing i:i the area, referral to, and has. in addition, a collection of three thousand young native trees ready for planting out. Tlie contractor is now engaged in clc.ir-ing-up work at tho new Boys' (.'oilesc and it ir. anticipated that everything will bo ready for occupation when the next term opens at the end of May. Tho river is still swollen, but thore has b?en no apparent rise in its level. Tlie weather shows signs of clearing, and, on appearances, there should be- no fear ot flood.
