DAPHNE BUTTER DELIVERY.
A FINE MOTOR VAN.
Daphne butter, which is put up by Messrs. Hill and Barton, Ltd., of Wellington, is receiving a good advertisement just now. Tho firm has imported a motor van for delivery, and, of course, tho namo of the firm's chief brand is displayed about the exterior of the conveyance. The van is said to bo the first one-ton light delivery wagon for fast servico to arrive in New Zealand. '' It has a two-cylinder engine with all the old-fashioned appliances cut out. ■ It is self-contained; it lubricates itself, 'and generates ■ its own electricity. It is so geared that it can carry a full load up a.grado. of one 'in four. Tho machinery is simple, and on that account drivers can bo changed frequently. Tho exhaust pipe has been so placed that the exhaust is carried freo of tho back of the car. Tho frames.are specially strengthened and in-swept, so as to allow tho car to turn in a very small radius. There is nothing about the car which is similar to a "pleasure" car. The engines are 12 horse-power, and a full load can bo run at 25 miles an hour on the flat. Tho Scott Motor Agency, Wellington agents for Renault, imported tho car. Tho body of the car was built by Messrs'. Rouse, Black, and Son, of Wellington, and is a splendid piece of work. It: is specially designed for carrying' butter, and has been thoroughly insulated. • .. _ . ■ ; 'A party of pressmen were driven in the car to.the highest'point on the road abovo Oriental Bay. Tho drive was a
great test for the: vehicle, which proved to bo an excellent climber, and positively safe in descending' the awkward grades.
