$ 24 PER CENT. IN FIVE YEARS; (By Telegraph—Press Association.) Auckland, April 28. . The population of Greater Auckland exceeds 109,000. It was expected that all the returns for tho constituent areas would ho completed to-day, but the figures for tho borough of Birkenhead havo not yet been completed. Without this borough the population of Greater Auckland is 107,720, and it the population of Birkenhead is taken as 1475 the total for Auckland will be, 100,195. The latter estimate is far from'generous, as it allows an increase in Birkenhead of only 209, which was tho addition mado in the previous five years. In five years the population of Greater Auckland has increased by 21 per':ccnfe;l while the addition during the past ten years has amounted to 51 per cent. Tho following table shows the returns for tho constituent areas of Greater Auckland, with the exception of Birkenhead:— 1911. ' 1900. 1901.
