YACHTING.

[By Main9iieet.] Racing Season Closes, The Port Nicholson Yacht Club's raciii" season was brought to a close on Saturday last, when tlie last race was got off. The season has been fairly successful, and all the races, with the exception of third-class events, have been well contpsted. Last Saturday's race did not bring forth the result which was expected.- The handicapping in some cases was far from hitting the nail on the head, and, in fact, resulted in some of the vachts, which very rarely race, getting a place, he limit boat, Arnai, had a handicap of 4fi minutes, but the writer lias since heard that she did not comp:e;e the course. Mahina hold the lead from start to finish, and she worked a few points, which enabled her to get a good lead. During the race, ri is stated that the. yacht Lizzie ran down the Nancy Stair, a contretemps which caused the owners of the latter yacht to enter a protest. The Nancy Stair sailed nn exceptionallv good race, finishing second, wit!) Muritai close behind. The timekeepers were put to a good deal of inconvenience at the finish. Two yachts which started in the race did not complete the course, and then came up and "finished." Siren, in fact, came up and finished first, but, after the timekeepers had fired the gun and taken her time, they were informed by the crew of the yacht that they did not race. The same thing happened in the case of the ■Awai, which also started but, did not complete the course, and then came up and "finished." One cannot help thinking that the Port Nicholson Club should do°somcthing to prevent yachts from continuing this practice. The result of the race was:—To Ehuna, 1; Nikau, 2; Eawene, 3. Winder Cup Goes to Lotus. The Winder Cup has been won this season by Mr. Fred Cooke's boat Lotus, with a total of 75 points. The cup was presented to Hie To Aro Sailing Club by Mr." Geo. Winder, for competition amongst the club's fleet. The heat which achieve? the highest number of agsregatc points during the soasnn holds the cup for one year. The -points secured by other craft in the club's fleet aro as follow:— Redwing, 71: Winifred, fit; Vnleta, 01; Kaitare, SC; Nan, 58; and Dorocn, 20. I Notes and Jottings. During the winter it is the intention of the P.N.Y.C. to hold n =cries of dances in the New Century Hall. Messrs. Gendel and Pierard's new highspeed launch was put in the water last Saturday afternoon. She is only 20ft. long, and is very stoutly built. Her beam is oft. fiin., and she has a mean drought of 2ft. Her cabin contains a 25 h.p. three-cylinder Fcrro engine, which has the appearance of being a somewhat, powerful little bit of machinery. If the weather is fine to-day, the launch will make a trial spin. This afternoon the To Aro Sailing Club will hold a race for trophies presented by the Motor Boat Club.
