AND HOW IT FARED. Mr. J. Anderson, of Pahiatua, who left Wellington a littlo over three weeks ago, with a shipment of seven horses, comprising the stallion Royal Gordon, five fillies and one gelding,J'or the Sydney market, has returned--The steamer Wiiangape, by which the animals were shipped, had on board a total of 451 horses, and somo other stock for the Royal Agricultural Show in Sydney. The- yearlings were said to be worth over £1000. Tho shipment is said to have- been the largest ever sent to Sydney from tho Dominion. Another vessel left later with 60 animals. The horses were- of a mixed variety, comprising Clydesdales, Shires, coachers, and hackneys, as well as somb thoroughbred yearlings, and Clydesdale stallions, and were selected from all over New Zealand. During' the voyage tho steamer encountered, stormy weather and for three days after leaving Wellington the wind blew with considerable force. One night was described as something awful,' and tho hands were kept busy in picking, up the horses. The gale raged for hojirs. . . . Whilst only three horses were lost on the voyage, several others never' recovered, from the effects. Mr. Anderson heard that in all twenty died, sonie at the wharf. The horses belonging to Mr. Anderson, howover, arrived in splendid condition.— "Pahiatua Herald." ;
