Harold Ogden was ordered to pay £1 18s. , 6d. to Mrs. A. Cenci on or beforo Ma , } , 9, in default three days' imprisonment. ■ •• -. In the case of Jones and _Ashdown, Ltd. v. James Rapley, a claim for £9 l<!s. 4d., defendant was ordered to pay tho amount on or beforo May 9, in default ten days' imprisonment. : A DEAL IN OILDRTJMS. Oildrums formed the subject of dispute in the case in which Charles C. Green, commission agent, 25 Mercer Street, proceeded against William White, sheep-dip manufacturer, : Otane, Hawko's.Bay, to recover the sum of £27 Is., alleged to be due for one thousand and eighty-two empty oildrums at 6d. each. Mr. E. J. Fitzgibbon appeared for plaintiff and Mr. P. W. Jackson for defendant. Evidenco of the defendant and three, of his witnesses had been taken at Dannevirke and, yesterday, the case for the plaintiff was heard, and further evidenco was called for the defence. . Plaintiff's case was to the effect that the drums were sold f.o.b. at Wellington, and duly placed on board the train in good condition. For the defence it was contended that 90 per cent of the drums were quite unfit for the purpose for which they were' required, as they were dirty and full of holes. The magistrate reserved his decision. GOODS SOLD AND DELIVERED. T. and W. Young, merchants, Wellington, sued Robert Pollock, hotelkeeper, Greyraouth, to recover the sum of £14 15s. for goods sold and delivered. Evidence for the defence had been taken at Grcymouth and, after hearing plaintiffs' case yesterday, tho magistrate gave judgment for the amount claimed with costs and witnesses' expenses totalling £4 los. Mr. A. Gray appeared for plaintiffs. POLICE CASES. Karl Johansen, a duly articled seaman of the Norwegian barque Ariel, pleaded guilty to having deserted from his ship. Mr. A. Newton, Norwegian Consul, informed tho magistrate that accused was one of three men who had deserted just prior to tho departure of the barque for Dunedin. The captain of the vessel was willing to pay any expenses incurred if accused were sentenced to a term of-imprisonment in Dunedin Gaol with an order that ho be placed on board the vessel on the occasion of her departure. Accused was sentenced to one month's imprisonment at Dunedin, and ordered to pay 7s. costs, and to bo placed on board the vessel if she departed beforo the expiry of tho term of imprisonment. . William Ncwbury pleaded guilty to a charge of stealing, on April 19, a dress basket and a quantity of clothing valued at £3, the property of Ellen. Thompson. The same accused and another man, named Sydney William- Arthur were jointly charged with stealing, on April 24, a'blanket and two pairs of trousers valued at 155., the property of Margaret Britis. Both pleaded guilty, they were remanded for sentence until this morning.. An elderly man, named James Ryan, pleaded guilty to a charge of being a rogue and a vagabond in that he was found by night without lawful excuse on premises in Guilford Terrace. Accused stated that he went in to shelter from the rain. As there was no previous conviction against him, he was convicted and ordered to come up for sentence when called on. Howard Ingram admitted having been intoxicated oil Monday and rlso pleaded guilty, to a charge'of'using improper
language. For the first offence he was convicted and discharged and, for the second, ho was lined £3, in default '21 days' imprisonment. John M'Kay, charged with drunkenness, was lined os., with the option of 24 hours' imprisonment, a prohibition order to ho issued against him for one j ear. Florence Agnes Swinard and William Francis Clark., who were remanded last Friday on a charge of stealing goods, valued at £10, the property of ."Joseph Ormrod, between February 13 and March 13, were again before the Court yesterday afternoon. Kaeh accused elected to be tried snmnnrily and pleaded guilty. A line of 20s. was imposed in each case and each defendant was ordered to pay £5 towards the value of the goods. Default was fixed at seven days' imprisonment.
