SCHOOL FOR VOGELTOWN.
—TT— '*-. ——- ADVANCED ANOTHER STAGE. Yesterday morning several members of the Wellington Education Board visited Vogoltowu to acquire first hand evidence of the educational needs of the district. A deputation of Vogeltown residents had waited upon the board at its previous meeting, and represented that the establishment of a" schooliu the district was an urgent necessity, indicating, further, that the new i school, building should bo erected on the-old' site, as being more convenient, in preference to tne land in the Morniugton Estate, which had been acquired by the board as a site for a future district school. The board then undertook.to make a personal survey of the district. Referring to the question at the board's meeting yesterday, Mr. J. G. W. Ai'tken said that the old site and the new site on the Morniugton Estate were too close-, together;, further, it would. bo cruel and altogether wrong to make young children walk- from Vogeltown either to Newtown or to Brooklyn. In his opinion, a side school for the younger children would meet the present requirements, and he moved, therefore; that the board's officers be instructed to go. into the matter. The ■chairman (Mr. R, Lee) said that the main school at Brooklyn was now at its maximum—6oo. and it was not desirable to further- increase the number on its present roll The population of the whole district, however, was going up, and the board would soon have to provide another school. A side school would not relieve the Brooklyn The question was referred to the inspectors for a report.
