'A monk named Iliodor triumphed over the efforts of the Holy Synod, tho Government, and the police to removo him from his office at Tsaritzin. Iliodor is now regarded as a demigod, and his twelve thousand followers form the nucleus of a" reform movement in tho Orthodox Church, which is threatening to overturn the hierarchy. REGARDED AS A MARTYR, "IMPIOUS CULTURED CLASSES." (Rec. April 24, 9.55 p.m.) . St. Petersburg, April 24. Iliodor's exploit appeals to millions of humbler church members, who regard him as a martyr saved by the Tsar's intervention.
Iliodor has started a campaign against the "impious" cultivated classes.
The members of tho Black Hundred (one of the extrcmo reactionary sections in Russia) are rejoicing at his success.
