FOR THE HUTT VALLEY.
GIFT FOR COTTAGE HOSPITAL. A deputation waited on the Borough Council at Petono last night, and the Mayor (Mr. J. W. M'Ewan), in explaining the reason of their coming, said that there was a sum of £21 left over from a fund which had been established by thn men working on the duplication works between Petono and Wellington, and the deputation's desire was that the council should take that money and hold it as an'amount to be put towards the erection of a cottage hospital in the district. Tho speaker of the deputation said that their wish was that tho money should go towards the establishment of a cottage hospital in tho Hutt Valley. The Mayor said that only that day a lady had waited on him, and expressed a desire to start a fund for an institution of the kind in tho Valley. . Councillor Piper thought it would not be right to take the £21, and in some years' time hand back just tho same amount. It was decided to accede to tho wish of the deputation, and the donors were thanked for their action.
