FEILDING ITEMS.
The- Rev. James M'Kcnzie, Into of Aniti, is to be inducted at tho Shannon Presbyterian Church next Wednesday. : Mr. Rohert M'Xab, ex-Minister for Lands, has promised to deliver a, lantern lecture, in Feildinc; on Slay 5. Tho lecture. will be, entitled. "A Month Among the Temples of Egypt." An effort is being made to have a sufficient liumher of hockey teams in the Feilding district to run a competition here. Prospects are in favour of the move being brought to a successful issue. St. Paul's Bible Class has fornied a teanij the Park Cricket Club decided at a meeting last week to enter a team, Halcombo has a team, possibly Kongotea will got'a-team together, and the Feilding Cricket Club may have two teams. . Competition games will. bo played on Saturdays. The Foilding Hockey Club, which represented this district last season will continue- to play in the Manawatu competitions on Wednesdays. Tho Borough Council has specially complimented the Town Clerk (Mr. A. J. Geary) upon the prompt manner in which he got out the* borough balancesheet. " - ' : "A floral fete in aid of the Beautifying Society's funds is to he held in Mr. John Cobbe's grounds to-morrow (Wednesday). . There was a fresh in the Oroun Kiver on Saturday morning, mid tho Manawatu was also up. This is tho result of the heavy rain in Hawke's Bay. Messrs. A. T. Spain and TT. H. M'Lcan, of the I'cilding Golf Club, each won first honours in the competitions at tho Now Plymouth tournament last week. Mr. J. Power, ;f the same club, got into secsnd place in a competition. Mr. F. A. Jacohsen, Government bee instructor for the Wellington, Taranaki, and Hawke's Bay provinces, was in Feildir.;. last week on a tour of inspection. Ho states that the hives in this district ,iro now practically free from diseass. Tho old box hives are fait disappearing, and making way for the regulation hives. The 'Wanganui Bowling Club's crack rink—Eankin, London, Atkinson, and the whole of Saturday on the Feilding green. They were engaged against tho local club's two best rinks. In the morning the visitinp combination, skipped by Eankin, played the holders of the Dixon Cup (Thomson; Clnpham, Stewart, Bartholomew, skip.) and went down badly, Feilding winning by 27 to 11. In the afternoon, with London as skip, tho visitors played Mason, Chappell, Stewart, and Saywell (s.). A keen contest resulted, and, when the 21st head was finished, honours were even—l 6 all. The next two extra heads wore made "dead" by London, and then the visitors had to leave to catch their train.
