SHEEP "FAKING."
A ROJINEY MAN'S OPINION. ' "Young Kent Breeder," in a. letter to the "Farmer and Stockbreeder" (London), says:—" . . . After tho recent innovation in tho Kent classes at Smithfield and Ashford cattlo show and ram aalcs I feel sure no one- unacquainted with tho breed would know that trimrr.ed and uritrimmed sheep wero of the same variety. Apart from this, the long wool of the Kent sheep does not lend itself to this trimming, which utterly destroys the character of this qldibreed. I always thought one of tho chief points in long-woolled sheep was to obtain as Jang and as even a staple of wool as possible, but should this trimming continue brooders will be obliged to breed sheep suitable for trimming,, with a shorter staple of wool and more of the Down character, a thing, to iny mind, -sist undesirable. I have been thinking
that all I have learnt of the Kent brood will have, to undergo considerable alteration, but,-judging . •'. . from what 1 hear, and from my personal experience, I feel certain that strong measures' will bo tal'cn at tho animal mooting to prevent this.fast .increasing practice." '
