Mr. Hughes, the Acting-lMeral Priino Minister and Attorney-General (whose reference to tho Coal Vend in his recent speech at Adelaide was brought under tho notice of Mr. Justice Isaacs by defendant's counsel, who contended such reference was contempt of Court, tho caso being sub judice), says the fart of tho Vend's existence and operations eftunot bo suppressed merely because there happens to be a prosecution. He was not aware that he said anything of which evidence had not already lrec.n,, gi\;ca ..before ip, Court. He would Abstain ii'oitt" Saying' anything the Court might regard as unfair to the defendants. As conductor of the campaign, ho must allude to this monopoly, and give as instances of its operations that which was already in evidence before tho Court.
