THE CORONATION.

SYMBOLS OF THE OVERSEA DOMINIONS. By Telegraph—Press Ajsociation-Oopyrielit London, April 21. All parts of the Empire will be symbolished on tho Coronation stole to be worn by the King—lndia by a lotus, Canada by a maple leaf, Australia by the Southern Cross, New Zealand by a group I of stars, and South Africa by the wattle. Sydney, April 22. June 22 has been appointed a public holiday in honour of the Coronation. There will bo no bank holiday on the Prince of Wales's Birthday, but August 22 will bp made a bank holiday instead. THE VESTMENTS. The stole is an ecclesiastical vestment consisting of a narrow strip of silk which is placed upon the King's shoulders at the Coronation, reaching on each side to his waist. In his little book on "How and Why King George will be Crowned," the Rev. Joseph Hammond writes:— The Royal robe and the Imperial mantle, along with other vestments, are now produced and the Kiu£ is clothed therewith. Hp. has been made in a sense God's Bishop, i.e., "overseer"—overseer both of the Church and tho realm—as well as Kin™, and therefore ho is arrayed in a vesture whicli is at once royal and sacerdotal; the Colobium Siudonis, the Dalmatic, the Imperial mantle, the stole, all speak of his priesthood. Like his predecessors he will be habited, as a spiritual person, and holding a certain spiritual authority "in bysshoppe's gore." Of Henry VI it is recorded that "they rayed him lyke as a bysshop should sny masse." And when he is thus ecclesiastically attired a. sphere of gold, six inches in diameter, studded with diamonds and other jewels, and surmounted by a golden cro;s, also richly jewelled and resting on a monster amethyst, will bo put into his right hand as ho sits in the Coronation ■Chair. And this, like the rest of the ceremonial, will be sanctified with prayer —prayer that God would endue him with knowledge and wisdom and rlotho him with righteousness. The Orb (he is told) is to remind him "that the whole world is subject to tho power and einpiro of Christ our Redeemer."
