'ANOTHER CASE IN COURT. (By Telegraph.—Press Association.) Chs-istchurch, April 21. At the Magistrate's Court this morning, before Mr. Bailey, S.JI., Alfred Thurkfttle, an adjutant of tho Salvation Army, was charged with having delivered an address in Cathedral Square on April 14 without tho permission of the CJiristchureh City Council. There was a similar charge with regard to April 15. Defendant was also charged with praying aloud in Cathedral Square on April 17 without the—permission of tho council. Jlr. Fleshcr. who appeared for the defendant, asked for a remand for a week. Sub-Inspector Jl'Grath said ho noticed by the papers that morning that the Army intended to continue to hold meetings. He did not know if defendant was responsible for that statement, but he wanted an undertaking that the ofTenco would not bo repeated if the cases were adjourned. Jfr. Flesher said he would not give such an undertaking. He had only received his instructions the day before.He knew nothing with regard to the statement that tho Army'" would con-, tinuo the meetings. Reporters were always looking for "copy." Sub-Inspector Jl'Gratli said an information would bo laid every time a mooting was held. If the adjournment was granted, an undertaking' ought to bo given that,thero would be no breach in tho meantime. Jlr. Flesher said one of the charges was "pra.Ving aloud in Cathedral Square without the normission of the Citv Council." This was a new phase of the question. _ The Sub-Inspector said the cases were similar tn the one already decided by his Worship in connection with this bvlaw. • The magistrate said he thought the Army, seeiiiK the matter was sub iudice. ought to refrain from holding further nicotines in the Square. did not refrain from so doing, an informilion ought to ho laid every time. He granted an adjournment fcr a week.
