PETONE'S NEW VICAR.
*• REV. G. B. STEPHENSON, M.A., M.Sc. The Rev. G. B. Steplionson, vicar oi Pongaroa, has been appointed to the charge of tho Petone parish, rendcrcc' .vacant by the acceptance by the Rev. J. D. Russell of tho Oaniaru parish. Mr Stephenson is one of the younger colo> nial clergy who received his educatioi at St. John's College, Auckland, where after a brilliant career, ho obtained the M.A. and M.Sc. degrees. Later, .-Ik passed his theological examinations will considerable distinctions, Ho workec for two or thrcp years at Palmerstoi North as curate under Archdeacon Har per, and recently-has been controlling i large bush district, which has its-head quarters at Pongaroa. It is' told o; Mr. Stephenson that once, in order tin better to learn the conditions undo: which navvies on the Main Trunk lint worked during the construction of tin line, he spent a fortnight's holiday aone of them, his identity unknown t< any but himself. Mr. ■Stephenson i enthusiastic in athletic affairs, and ha represented Auckland in Associatioi football.
