Says, our travelling correspondent:— Drizzling and apparently, warm continuous rain commenced to fall early yesteriay afternoon over all Southern Hawke's Bay. If the downpour continues, and the weather keeps warm much good should result, as up 'till now tho drought had badly affected tho prospects for winter Teed.- In any case, the season is certain to bo unsatisfactory for farmers, except for the fact that high prices are certain to rule for winter stock, including sheen, cattle, and pigs. During the past two months (as compared with, tho corresponding time last year) the dairy factory milk supplies have, as in .other North Island districts, decreased'by fully fifty per cent. Messrs. Dalgety and Company, Ltd., Wellington, report having sold, in conjunction with Messrs. Devereiix, King 'and Company, Happy Valley Station, owned by Mr. W.' Melhuish, to Mr. T. Moreland, of Birch Hill, Marlborough. A. L. Payne's Melba, the horse which won the high jump at the Sydney Show, cleared 6ft. 4in. In 1009 Desmond jumped three inches higher. The Agricultural Conference in Perth resolved to ask the State Government to urgo tho Federal authorities to grant a butter bonus for co-operative dairy companies for five years. " A field day for farmers hold at Brightwater . was, according to the "Nelson Mail," largely attended. Ploughing coinpetitions and dog trials were tho attractions. The ploughing events resulted as Follow:—Single furrow, long mould (grass), 3. Schwas*. I; L. Schwass, 2. junior single furrow, H.' Palmer, 1; A. Palmer, 2. Single furrow, long mould board, Stanley Andrews, 1. Senior short mould board (jrass), N. M'Laughlin, 1; P. Busch, 2. Junior ditto, C. Webby, 1. Single fnrrow, for youths under 18, C. Grace, 1; A. Coventry. 2. Special prizes were awarded as follow;— Best crown, H. Schwass. Best finish, W. H. Ching. Best ins and outs, A. Palmer. Best got-np leam, A. I'almer. In the dog trials, 1. Cumming was very successful. Tho big cheese, an annual landmark at the National Dairy Show, will be made it the Ngaero Factory, in Taranaki, where its predecessors came from. It will contain .£ls worth of coins, and will be sold in chunks of required sizes. As tho trial shipment of New Zealand apples should arrive in London shortly, New Zealand fruit-growers mny be interested in the report on an Australian shipment which arrived in London last week. Tho apples arrived in excellent condition, and" met a strong .narket. The following prices were realised:—Western Australian: Jonathans, 14s. to 18s. Cd.; Cleopatras, 15s. to 18s.; Co.-'s, 17s. to 20s. (a "few at 205.); other sorts, 12s. Gd. to lfe. Od. Victorian and South Australian: Jonathans, 12s. to Us. Gd.; Muivros, Us. Gd. to lis.; Cleopatras, 12s. to 14s. Gd.; Cox's, 15s. Od. to 195.; Wellingtons, Ids. to 10s.; others, 10s. to 13s. Tasmanian: Ribstones, 12s. to 145.; Cox's, 13s. to 255.; New Yorks, 13s. to 175.; Scarlets, 12s. od. to Its.; others, 10s. Gd. to 13s. Cd. South Australian apples at Liverpool realised from 10s. to 12s. (some frosted from ss. 3d. to Bs.)
