CAPITAL AND LABOUR.
(By Telegraph.—Press Association.) Auckland, April 20. Relations between capital and labour formed the chief after-dinner topic with ■the members of tho Auckland Provincial Industrial Association at their annual dinner last night. Tho president (Mr. B. Buttle) said capital and labour were at grips struggling for supremacy. What was wanted was a Solution of the difficulty. Ho did not think that was to be brought about by legislation, but only by coming to an understanding with each other on a man-to-man basis. The Hon. .Tames Carroll, replying to the toast of "Parliament," spoke of the necessity of labour and capital working in conjunction towards the advancement of tho commercial welfare of the country. The present state of affairs could not go on, for the head cdtild not work without the rest of the anatomy. The Government had tried to solve the labour problem by legislation, but the employers were on one side, and the employees on the other, and neither were satisfied. He believed they would yet find imbued in all sections of the public a true sense of fair play. When they arrived at that understanding the problem was solved.
