$ COURTESY TO LIEI'T. SHIRASB REMEMBERED. The following letter explains itself;— Itclioma, Tokyo, Japan. February 27, 1911. R. Fletcher, Esq., Chairman Harbour Board, Wellington. Sir,—Permit us to tender you our best thanks on learning by our Lieutenant Shirase's telegraph communication that you were kind enough to render him and his party much favour on their arrival at your port. The Ivai-nan-Maru, tjie ship for the party, will return to your port again after conveying Lieutenant Shirase and the landing party to the Antarctic regions. We shall be obliged greatly if you will kindly give Captain Nomura or chief mate of the ship letters and newspapers, under separate cover, on arrival at your port. Mr. George WyatT, the treasurer of the British Antarctic Expedition of 1910, had come to Tokyo at the end of January on the way to England. We talked with him much at Count Okuma's residence (the president of our expedition). With wishes for your health and success. Respectfully yours, S.
